Taylor Swift, in full Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13th, 1989 West Reading Pennsylvania U.S.) American pop and country music singer-songwriter whose tales of youthful heartache earned her widespread success in the early 21st century. Swift developed an interest for musical instruments as a young person and swiftly progressed from participating in shows for children before making her first appearance public. Swift was eleven years old when she sang The Star-Spangled Banner at a Philadelphia 76ers basketball match. The following year she started writing her own songs, and also picked up the guitar. Swift wrote original songs inspired by the country music of artists such as Shania Twain (now known as the Chicks), and Dixie Chicks. Her material was a reflection of Swift's experiences as a tween and the feeling of alienation. Swift was just thirteen when her parents made the decision to let go of their Pennsylvania farm to relocate to Hendersonville Tennessee. She could then devote all of her efforts to contacting the country music labels that were based in Nashville.
